High School Graduations

 

May 1908

 

Commencement week of Neillsville High School will begin Sunday evening, June 7, with the baccalaureate sermon by Rev. H. A. Risser at the Congregational Church. Thursday evening, June 11, the Class Play, “Bachelors,” will be given at the Opera House.  Friday evening, June 12; The Commencement Exercises will be held at the Opera House with the following program: Invocation, Rev. W. P. Burrows; Glee Club singing; address by Rev. F. A. Gilmore “The Youth’s Dream of Life.”  Double Trio Singing: Valedictory, “With Wolfe at Quebec” by Myrtle Evans.  Presentation of Diplomas: Principal H. A. Schofield & “Good Night, Good Night Beloved,” by the Glee Club.

 

The following graduates are Harold Balch, Vivian Brooks, Katherine Dixon, Bernice Frank, Blanch Heaslett, Alice Neverman, Grace Shummel, Linus Braun, Calvin Davis, Myrtle Evans, May Free, Clark Morley, Avis Ring, Norma Smith, and Theresa Schwentkofske.

 

Class Motto, “We have crossed the foothills; the mountains are in view.”

The Commencement exercises of the class of 1928, Neillsville High School, were held on May 31.  The graduating class consists of 38 members in the regular courses and 19 graduates from the Teachers’ Training Departments.

 

The following program will be: Invocation by Rev. G. W. Longnecker; song by Girls’ Glee Club; Salutatory Address presented by Bernice Smith; Valedictory Address presented by Marie Short; Song with Girls’ Glee Club; Address “Education as a Solution,” Prof. Ross L. Finney of the University of Minnesota.  Presentation of Monday Progress Pin: Mrs. Ida M. Hommel; Presentation of Diplomas, Principal W. C. Hansen; Benediction – Rev. G. W. Longnecker.

 

The Monday Progress Pin this year goes to Lela Raine, the student who has the highest average standing during the past year.  This is the seventeenth year the Neillsville Monday Progress Club has given a pin on the same conditions.

 

Two special honor pins were given for superior scholarship, combined with outside activities.  Clifford Nelson and Marie Short were recipients of the special honor pins.

 

Prof. Finney, the speaker of the evening, holds the chair of Educational Sociology in the University of Minnesota.

Commencement exercises for the graduates of Granton High School were held at the Village Hall auditorium Tuesday night.  E. H. Boettcher, principal of the Junior High School in Wausau, formerly a principal of Granton High School, delivered a fine address, “A Challenge to Youth.”

 

Processional – Mrs. E. W. Crandall; Invocation – Rev. E. P. Stone;  Salutatorian – Norbert Moh; Valedictorian – Olga Buth; Address – E. H. Boettcher; singing – Girls’ Glee Club; Boys’ Sextet and Boys’ Glee Club;  Presentation of diplomas: – L.L. Spry, School Board President, and Benediction – Rev. E. P. Stone. 

 

Graduating Class members are: Laurence Bartz, Gerhardt Berge, Olga Buth, Raymond Canfield, Theodore Hillert, Lois Korth, Norbert Moh, Audrey Pickett, Arthur Schlinsog, Lydia Schlinsog, Myron Searles, Donald Snyder, Melvin Smith, Doris Spry and Patty Winn.

 

Neillsville High School Graduation will be held at the Armory on May 26, 8 p.m.  The baccalaureate service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sunday, May 22, 8 p.m. Rev. W. A. Baumann will present the sermon.  There will be 62 seniors graduating with diploma presentation being done by Supt. D. E. Peters and valedictory address by Miss Dolores Scott.

This week and next week will be full of graduating activities in Neillsville.  The forerunner of commencement week was the Junior – Senior Prom held Saturday night.  Robert Scott was Prom King and Pat Van Gorden filled the role of Prom Queen.

 

The commencement exercises will be held in the Armory Thursday evening with the principal address by Marshal A. Wiley, an attorney of Chippewa Falls.  The baccalaureate exercises were held Sunday evening in the Congregational Church with the sermon by Rev. Samuel D. Robbins.  Robbins theme was “Talents, Education, Purpose.”
