Granton Alumni Reunion Held

The Granton Alumni Reunion was held August 2, 2008, at the American Legion Hall in Neillsville. A group of 154 Granton High School graduates, spouses and in some cases, sons or daughters attended.  The reunion included classes from 1929 to 1959.

The first Alumni Reunion was held in 1938 by the Class of 1937.  Other classes were added as time passed.  Invitations were extended to classes as far back as 1918.  In two years, the classes of 1960 and 1961 will be invited.

The oldest graduate in attendance was Orville Evanson from the Class of 1937.

Alvin Spaete was the emcee for the occasion. Paul “Murph” Rosandich spoke briefly, mentioning students he taught who went on to bigger and better things.  One student in his Driver’s Ed class went on to become Luke Duke of the “Dukes of Hazard.”  Some of the athletes he coached went on to play sports at the college level.

The Emanuel Sacred Steel Band from Stratford, led by Pastor Harr and his wife, entertained with music typical of the Caribbean Islands.  Interested members of the audience were invited to gather around for a closer look at the instruments and try their hand at playing them.
