St. Katherine's Episcopal Church (1916)

One of the most noteworthy events of the year in Clark County, Wis. was that of the dedication of St. Katherine's Church on Friday evening of last week. There was a large attendance, not only from the village, but a number from Eau Claire, and all united in a general spirit of good will and congratulations, and it was a very interesting occasion.

The dedication exercises commence with the service at 7:45 in the evening, being delivered by the Right Rev. Reginald H. Well D. D., bishop of Fond du Lac, whose address was worthy of the occasion, and he also administered the Sacrament of Confirmation. On Saturday morning at 8 o'clock the service of Consecration, followed by the celebration of Holy Communion concluded the services. The Rev. P. H. Linley took an active part in each service.

The new church is one of the finest in the county, and is of great credit not only to the society for which it was erected, but also to the community in which it stands. It is a structure built on permanent lines, and for a half century to come it will be a fitting place of worship and also a center from which will go out a moral and religious influence of far reaching benefit to those in the community and unto generations to come.

The new church is on the site just opposite to the home of W. G. Royer. The idea of a new church was taken up last year, the pastor, Rev. Philip H. Linley taking the initiative.

The wood work is of the finest pine. The windows are of art glass, one of them representing "Christ, the Good Shepherd." It is lighted by electricity, and is modern throughout. It is a beautiful structure within and without.

Churches, like schools, mark the progress of the communities in which they are situated. The town in which church spirit is manifest and dominant, appeals to those who want the best conditions, . In its great success in this instance, the community, of which Owen is the center, has again proven the quality of its people, and set still another standard from which it will go forward to further achievements of worth and benefit to all within its borders.
