--------- Schraufnagel, Henry & Mary

Henry Schraufnagel and Mary Weix were married at LeRoy in June of 1875. Judging from the deed to property, they rented land in 1877 and completed the purchase on May 15, 1878.

The farm, located four miles east of Abbotsford, Wis. and one-half mile south, is now owned and operated by a grandson of the original owners, Cletus Schraufnagel.

The Schraufnagel’s had nine children: Joseph, Michael, Allie, Frank, Norbert, Anna, Alvina, Leonard and Henry. Four of the above are still alive, Joseph, Henry, Anna and Alvina.

Henry Schraufnagel died in March of 1895, leaving the care of the family and management of the farm to his wife.

Joseph and Michael, the eldest sons, moved to Glidden, Wis. and operated a sawmill there for many years. When the timber disappeared they switched to the retail lumber and construction business, which is still being operated by sons of the original owners.

Allie, Frank, Norbert and Leonard operated farms in this area, with Norbert on the home farm. Anna and Alvina married and live in Richland County. Henry farmed in the Glidden area until his retirement and is now living in Glidden.

The descendants of Henry Schraufnagel now number more than 300, extending to the sixth generation.
