He was the son of 1 CONC Hans Herman Schwarze and Florentine Henriette Schwarze and was born on 1 CONC Dec. 29, 1803. Strangely, the church record referred to him as "Brand". 1 CONC It is unknown if this was an error on the part of the Pastor or if it was 1 CONC an alias. Since "Brand" has never previously come into the picture, it 1 CONC may of simpy been an error. 0 @NI0242@ NOTE 1 CONC Three sons from this family came to the USA in 1867 and to Greenwood, 1 CONC Wis. in 1870. 1 CONT Heinrich Hans Herman was only a half brother to the twins, Herman 1 CONC and Konrad John Herman. (Information was given by Arthur Schwarze before 1 CONC his death). 1 CONT *************** 1 CONT Our line was traced in Germany by a professional (Mr. Blattgerste) who 1 CONC was hired by two elderly sisters who never emigrated to America. It 1 CONC stems from Cord Schwarze (b. 1672, d. 1728) who married Barbara Konig of 1 CONC Stift, Paderborn, in 1695. Their son, Hans Herman Schwarze (b. 1714) 1 CONC married Elizabeth Diekmann, of Ludenhausen, in 1741. One daughter was 1 CONC born of this marriage: Anna Marie Iisabein (b. 1748) and she married 1 CONC Johann Henrich Freitag, of Luerdissen, in 1772, and Freitag assumed the 1 CONC name Schwarze. 1 CONT It seems it was the custom at that time that a man adopted the 1 CONC maiden name of the wife to carry on the family name when he married into 1 CONC a family where there were no sons and there was property. It is evident 1 CONC (according to Blattgerste) that Schwarzes, between 1740 and 1780, 1 CONC acquired position and property (Grund und Boden) in Brosen. The property 1 CONC involved is known as No. 13, which is still in the hands of Schwarzes. 1 CONC How large the property was originally is not known, but evidently it was 1 CONC large enough to enable them to keep one or two cows; they also butchered 1 CONC hogs in the winter for the "country houses and manors", in addition to 1 CONC following the building trade (maurer), which some of the men still 1 CONC follow. Mr. Blattgerste wrote that he personally knew the last three 1 CONC generations of Schwarzes "Mauermeister"). 1 CONT Anna Marie Isabein and John Henrich (Freitag) Schwarze (after 1 CONC several stillbirths) had a daughter: Florentine Henriette (born October 1 CONC 11, 1782) who on November 24th, 1800 married one Herman Heinrich Brand, 1 CONC of Harkemissen (b. October 24, 1773, d. October 22, 1853); (he also 1 CONC assumed the name of Schwarze) and they became the parents of: 1 CONT Hans Herman-December 29, 1803 1 CONT Anna Marie Charlotte-August 30, 1805 1 CONT Katherine Sofia-November 16, 1806 1 CONT Friedrich Christoff-December 31, 1808 1 CONT Luise Charlotte-September 30, 1817 1 CONT Johann Friedrich Konrad-February 17, 1820 1 CONT Simon Friedrich Konrad-April 18, 1822 1 CONT Kord Herman-April 23, 1824 1 CONT Their oldest son, Hans Herman Schwarze, married Sofie Klemme. June 1 CONC 24, 1850, he also had a set of twin boys with a second wife, Anna Maria 1 CONC Hover. They were named Herman Heinrich and Johann Conrad. Herman 1 CONC Heinrich became my great grandfather and he emigrated to America in 1867 1 CONC along with his twin and an older half brother and sister. They met up 1 CONC with a group of relatives and close friends who had left Lippe Detmold as 1 CONC a large group in 1847 and settled in Sheboygan, Wisconsin after first 1 CONC landing in Quebec, Canada. Most of that group were from Langenholzhaufen 1 CONC (exactly where your relatives came from). 1 CONT One of the group members wrote a small booklet about their previous 1 CONC life in Germany and their voyage here.
