Fairview Globe
Other Photos Teachers In 1917, teachers in the Neillsville School System were paid $45.00 per month, of which three dollars was paid for room and board. They boarded in a home near the school where they were taught.
Belle Mazola (Hansen) taught at the Globe, Weston Township, Clark Co., Wisconsin school during the 1937-38 school term, after she completed the teacher's training course offered by the Neillsville High School. Miss Baker had been her course instructor. While attending the county fair in August of 1947, Eric Schoenherr approached Belle Mazola asking her to teach the Globe School that year as they hadn't been able to find a teacher. She returned, to teach that term.
A rural school teacher's extra duties were many, such as firing the wood heater, carrying wood and some had to carry drinking water if the there was no well on the school property. However, both the teacher and students often looked upon their experiences with pleasure. Former students often became professionals in their community, having developed the necessary skills through a rural school background.
